Abstract

1431361 Bag filling devices BLACK PRODUCTS CO 6 March 1974 [21 May 1973] 10119/74 Heading B8C A bag filling device includes a chamber 11 having a horizontally extending spout 12 mounted upon a spout supporting frame 13, itself connected to a weighing device 14. The spout is connected to the chamber by a rubber tube 15, controlled by a pinch valve 19, and material from the chamber is urged through the spout into a bag 16 by air from a fluidizing pad 17 located in the sloping base of the chamber 11 and from an inlet 64 located above the chamber. The air inlet 64 is carried by the lower front wall 26 of a valve structure 20 mounted between the chamber and a supply hopper 47. The valve structure includes an upper sloping front wall 25 carrying a baffle 59 which projects into the interior of the structure, a pair of side walls 24 an upper wall with an opening 55 covered by a porous fabric 56 and an opening to the supply hopper, an upper rear wall 27, a lower rear wall 28 and a shoulder 29 connecting the parts of the rear wall. Pivotally mounted in a block 50 located below shoulder 29 is a door 34 of a door type valve, which door is pivotable, by means of a cylinder 45 acting through a lever 43 connected to one end of the shaft 33 carrying the door, from a vertical position (see Fig. 4) to a sloping position (see Fig. 8) in which it engages the lower edge (60) of the baffle 59 to prevent passage of material into the chamber. As the door nears its closed position, air from the chamber passes at increasing velocity upward through the gap between the end of the door and the edge of the baffle, thus preventing material from lodging in the gap, which material in turn would prevent full closure of the door. A switch is provided which is tripped by the weighing device when a bag has been filled, which switch initiates the return of the various elements of the device to their initial positions in readiness for the next filling operation.
