Abstract

1431089 Klon-cellular polyurethanes DOW CHEMICAL CO 2 April 1973 15740/73 Heading C3R A non-cellular polyurethane product is obtained by reacting a polyol mixture (A) containing (a) from 75% to 95% by weight of a polyether polyol having a hydroxyl number of from 30 to 1,200 and (b) from 5 to 25% by weight of a novolac resin of formula where R is hydrogen or alkyl, X is hydrogen, hydroxyl, chlorine, bromine or alkyl, n is 1 or 2 and m has an average value of from 0 to 4, with an organic polyisocyanate (B) in the presence of a catalyst (C), the polyisocyanate being used in an amount to provide from 0À9 to 2À0 isocyanate groups for each active hydrogen atom in the polyol mixture (A). In examples novolac resins prepared from phenol and formaldehyde are mixed with polypropylene glycols, adducts of propylene oxide with glycerine, an adduct of ethylene oxide with bisphenol A and the reaction product of a phenol-formaldehyde resin with propylene oxide, to form polyol mixtures which are reacted with prepolymers containing isocyanate groups obtained by reacting toluene diisocyanate with dipropylene glycol and with polypropylene glycol.
