Abstract

1431027 Rolling teeth EX-CELL.O CORP 8 April 1974 15491/74 Heading B3M A tool for pressure forming teeth or splines on the periphery of a cylindrical workpiece has teeth at its trailing end conjugate to those formed on the workpiece and teeth adjacent its leading end whose tips and roots are defined by radii. The tool, 10A, Fig. 2, is used in conjunction with an identical tool, the two tools being reciprocated in parallel with one another. The tool comprises sections 62A to G having teeth with different profiles but constant pitch. The teeth in sections 62A and 62B, Fig. 4, are conjugate to those rolled in a finished workpiece, while those in adjacent sections progressively decrease in height until sharp teeth 62C are provided at the extreme leading end of the die. As the teeth decrease in height, their tips and roots are defined by progressively increasing radii. The teeth in section 62B fall away, i.e. the pitch line 76 curves downwardly. Straight or inclined teeth on the die form spur or helical teeth or splines respectively on a workpiece.
