Abstract

1430847 Pneumatic tyres UNIROYAL 11 May 1973 [18 May 1972] 22574/73 Heading B7C A pneumatic tyre 10 comprises: a radial ply carcass 1; first and second sidewall rubbers 5 overlying respective lateral regions of the carcass; a tread rubber 3 overlying the crown region of the carcass; a breaker 2 interposed between the tread rubber and the carcass; and a cushion 7 interposed between the breaker and the tread rubber, the cushion being constituted by a rubber compound which is softer than the rubber compound constituting the tread rubber, the cushion having a maximum thickness at the mid-circumferential plane 8 of the tyre. The provision of the cushion 7 is said to improve the uniformity of wear across the axial width of the tyre tread. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the cushion (7), considered in radial cross-section, is crescent-shaped.
