Abstract

1430735 Spools BELLING & LEE Ltd 19 Sept 1974 40874/74 Heading B8M A spool upon which elongate, laminar, flexible material, e.g. a retractile, electric ribbon cable, may be wound is formed by two identical mating members 1 and 2 each comprising a generally flat, e.g. circular or polygonal, cheek 11 and 21 are, secured thereto or integral therewith, at least one stem portion 12 and 22. Each cheek is pierced by at least one aperture 13 and 23 slidably engageable with the stem portion(s) of the other member. The required distance S between cheeks may be set according to the width W of the material to be wound (and perhaps gripped by the cheeks) and the protruding portions as at 12a, 22a may be removed or retained. The assembly may be consolidated by adhesive or secured solely by frictional engagement of the components. In another spool, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) each cheek carries and receives two stem portions of quadrantal cross-section.
