Abstract

1430570 Cutting tools ALFRED HERBERT Ltd 27 March 1973 [31 Dec 1971] 60962/71 Heading B3B A cutting tool which may be of the form tool type comprises a laminar cutting insert which is clampable on to a seating on a tool holder, the insert 10 has a cutting edge 10a and an oppositely disposed locating edge portion 10b with a projection 10c which is located in a corresponding recess 19 in a shoulder 18 on the holder. The holder is provided with an inert seating face 16 on a seating member 13 which is secured to the holder 11 by way of screws 14, and a wedge member 21 which rests on the face 17 and is displaceable along the surface 17 by way of member 24 which has R.H. and L.H. threads, the wedging surface 23 urging the insert into engagement with the seating surface 16. The manufacture of the insert is effected by maching the support surface with the projection thereon, clamping a plurality of inserts together using the projections thereon as a means of location and alignment of the inserts and grinding the cutting edges of the inserts simultaneously with the appropriate clearance angles.
