Abstract

1430478 Brake valves CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO Ltd 16 April 1974 [19 April 1973] 10955/73 Heading F2F A brake control valve for use in an hydraulic braking system comprises a poppet type valve element 14 having a conical head 15 engaging a seating 16 of larger diameter than that of the bore 13 in which the stem of element 14 has a sealed sliding fit, the valve element 14 controlling flow between an accumulator connected port 19 and a wheel cylinder connected port 10, which port 19 has a connection through a passage 18 to an annular space behind the head 15 whereby when the fluid pressure acting on the annular area of the head 15 of the valve element between the seating 16 and the valve stem overcomes the load of a spring 21, element 14 is moved off its seating and vents the accumulator and wheel cylinder connected ports to a reservoir connected port 3. The control valve forms part of a dual brake valve assembly located in housing 1 and is operated through an arm 6 to move an input plunger 4 leftwardly so that exhaust valve seat 7 engages valve element 14 thereby closing off port 10 from port 3 via a plunger passage 8. Further leftward movement of plunger 4 causes element 14 to lift from seating 16 and establish communication between ports 19 and 10 via passages 18, 25 in an insert member 12 provided with a bore 13. In the brakes released position or in the valve lapped position during brake application if relief pressure in the accumulator line is reached the accumulator pressure lifts valve head 15 from seating 16 to allow fluid to return to the reservoir via chambers 17, 9.
