Abstract
1430417 Chucks METROLOGY SYSTEMS CORP 16 April 1973 18143/73 Heading B3B A fluid pressure operated chuck comprises a body 12, a plurality of master jaws 15 radially movable in channels in the body 12 and including keyways inclined to the axis of rotation of the body 12, an axially movable piston movable in a cylinder formed in a back plate, actuators 32 attached to the piston and including keys 44 that engage with the keyways in the master jaws to cause radial movement thereof, and means allowing the keyways on the master jaws 15 to be adjusted radially relative thereto to individually adjust each master jaw. The keyways are formed in a separable block adjustably mounted in each master jaw by screw means (Fig. 3, not shown). In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 8, not shown) the pressure and return lines to the piston and a supply of coolant, e.g. for a grinding operation, are supplied through a concentric arrangement of tubes and chambers. The master jaws 15 may have auxiliary jaw parts (Fig. 7, not shown) screwed thereto or a work clamping collet 70 may be used. This collet comprises a plurality of segments each attached to a master jaw for radial movement therewith and also attached to its adjacent segments by resiliently deformable members, e.g. rubber inserts.
