Abstract

1429981 Pressure-sensitive adhesive polyurethane foam ADHESIVE TAPES Ltd 15 July 1974 [20 July 1973] 34808/73 Heading C3R A pressure-sensitive adhesive foam structure incorporates a layer of a polyurethane foam (F) and a coating of a polurethane pressure-sensitive adhesive (A) integrally bonded to at least one surface thereof. The structure may be made by (1) coating a release surface with precursors for (F); causing or allowing at least partial foaming, applying a layer of precursors for (A), and reacting; or (2) coating the release surface with precursors for (A), optionally at least partially curing the precursors, applying over this coating precursors for (F), and reacting. A thickening agent may be incorporated in one of the precursor systems to prevent or hinder mixing of the layers. In method (2), after at least partial foaming has occurred, a further layer of precursors for (A) may be applied, followed by reaction to yield a 3-layer composite of an (F) layer with (A) integrally bonded to each surface. The pressure for (F) may be based on propylene oxide polyols, amine catalysts, blowing agents, and a di- and poly-isocyanate mixture. The precursors for (A) may be as in Specifications 1,113,925 or 1,216,672, or in Specification 1,425,500. TDI, optionally extended with propylene oxide units, may be used as polyisocyanate. Several of the components may be common to the precurors for both (A) and (E): e.g. diisocyanate, catalyst, and one or more polyols. Use.-Sealing.
