Abstract

1429877 Treating exhaust gases KALICHEMIE AG 21 June 1973 [27 June 1972] 29600/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] Carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in exhaust gases, e.g. from I.C. engines, are oxidized in contact with a catalyst containing a maximum of 0À5% wt. platinum, a maximum of 0À035% wt. palladium and a maximum of 0À375% wt. nickel supported on a carrier which has been calcined at a temperature of at least 1000‹ C., the Pt, Pd and Ni being present in a weight ratio of 1 : 0À02-0À07 : 0À25 to 0À75. The exhaust gases may be passed over the catalyst at a space velocity of 50,000 to 500,000 h<SP>-1</SP>. The carrier may be alumina, aluminium silicate or a honeycomb such as cordierite, betaspodumene, mullite or alpha-alumina which may be coated with alumina. The examples describe treatment of a gas containing 1 % vol. carbon monoxide, 4% vol. oxygen and 95% vol. nitrogen or 500 p.p.m. n-hexane, 4% vol. oxygen and 95À95% vol. nitrogen.
