1429513 Di-substitute diphenol acetylenes and their high stability nematic crystals THOMSON-CSF 26 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 9428/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division H4] The invention comprises compounds of Formula I: wherein the radical R 2 is or and the radical R 1 is selected from and and n is an integer of from 1 to 16 which compounds may be prepared when by reacting the corresponding 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dihydroxy compound with an alkyl halide, isolation of the 4 - alkoxy - 4<SP>1</SP> - hydroxy derivative and reaction thereof with an alkanoyl halide or a halocarbonate. The compounds of Formula I may be obtained as nematic liquid crystals which have application in liquid crystal devices.
