Abstract

1428507 Securing upholstery K G NYSTROM 21 Aug 1973 [25 Aug 1972] 39671/73 Heading A4M An upholstered seat or backrest comprises a rigid base 1 or 1a with a downwardly extending peripheral flange 5 or 5a, a cushion 2 or 2a on the base, and a cover 3 or 3a overlying the cushion and having its edge secured to a fastening strip 4 or 4a engaged with the flange to secure the cover, the strip being of flexible resilient material and of uniform cross-section throughout its length and including a first portion 6 or 6a which engages the flange such that it requires to be resiliently deformed to disengage it, and a second portion 7 or 7a in the form of a web which extends upwardly on the outer side of the flange, the web being connected below the lower edge of the flange to a lower edge region of the first portion 6 or 6a and being readily deflectable away from the first portion so that when the web deflects in use due to loading of the cushion the first portion does not disengage the flange. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the first portion 6 is generally U-shaped to receive the flange 5 and an extension 9 of one limb of the U overlies the edge of the base 1. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, an enlargement 11a along the edge of one limb of the first portion 6a has a snap engagement over a shoulder 12a on the flange 5a. In a modification Fig. 3 (not shown) of the Fig. 2 embodiment, the first portion (6b) does not include a limb disposed outside the flange (5b) and the enlargement (11b) additionally engages a shoulder (13b) on the underside of the base (1b),
