Abstract

1427761 Preparation of 5α,6α-epoxy-steroids CIBA-GEIGY AG 15 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 23105/73 Heading C2U A 5α,6α-epoxy-steroid is prepared by reacting a 5α,6#-dihydroxy-steroid in an inert organic solvent with an amine of the formula wherein X 1 is F or Cl, X 2 is Cl, F or CF 3 , and R and R<SP>1</SP> are each alkyl or -NBR<SP>1</SP> is a 5- to 7- ring membered heterocyclie radical. The process is desirably effected under anhydrous conditions, and in the presence of an organic nitrogen base to prevent a secondary slow reaction in which the formed epoxide is converted to a 6#,5α - fluorohydrin.
