Abstract

1427229 Cigarette filters and holders TEIJIN Ltd 14 June 1973 [14 June 1972] 28388/ 73 Headings A2C and A2M A tobacco smoke filter assembly comprises (a) a filter member free from supported adsorbent particles and (b) a fibrous adsorbent member located between the tobacco and (a) which comprises a ton of conjugate fibres of (1) at least one thermoplastic polymer which is a polyester or a polyamide and (2) at least one thermoplastic polymer which is a polyurethane, a polymer of an aromatic or aliphatic ethylenically unsaturated compound or a modified polyester or polyamide, the melting point of the lowest melting polymer in component (1) being at least 50‹C higher than that of the highest melting polymer in component (2), at least part of the surfaces of the conjugate fibres being formed by the lower (or lowest) melting polymer and having finely divided particulate adsorbent material partially embedded therein. As shown in Figs. I and 2, a rod of fibrous adsorbent 2 is disposed on the mouthpiece side of an ordinary filter 1. Alternatively an adsorbent 2 may be disposed between two filters 1. Fig. 2 shows the disposition of these items in a cigarette holder 7. Suitable adsorbents are carbon, zeolites, silica gel, alumina, and terra alba.
