Abstract

1426700 Optical scanning apparatus HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 24 April 1974 [21 May 1973] 17992/74 Addition to 1361145 Heading H4F Parent Specification 1,361,145 describes an optical raster scanning apparatus comprising a line scan mirror drum and a frame scan oscillating mirror so assembled in respect of the positions of drum axis and axis of oscillation, that the resulting -beam, scanning in a raster, appears to diverge from or converge to a single point thereby enabling symmetrical focusing optics to be used. The apparatus is specially described with reference to scanning an infrared scene to produce a corresponding video signal, or to scanning a light beam modulated with the video signal to reproduce the infra-red scene in visible light. The present Specification proposes the simultaneous scanning of the infra-red scene and the scanning of the modulated light beam, using respective adjacent facets 410a, 410g of the mirror drum 410 for the line scans, and a common widened oscillating mirror 428 for the frame scan. The geometrical relationships specified in the parent Specification apply for both scannings. The reproducing light beam may fall on a vidicon (Fig. 14, not shown) for remote display.
