Abstract

1425881 Cationic monoazo dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 April 1974 [4 May 1973] 21299/73 Heading C4P Novel dyes of formula (where A is a heterocyclic residue selected from the group of pyridines, quinolines, pyrazoles, imidazoles, benzimidazoles, oxazoles, benzoxazoles, isoxazoles, benzisoxazoles, thiazoles and 1,2,4-triazoles linked to the benzene ring in the meta or para position with respect to the azo linkage; R is an optionally substituted alkyl group; B is a heterocyclic coupling residue which couples ortho to a hydroxy group; X is an anion and the benzene ring D may be further substituted) are prepared by alkylating the corresponding non-quaternized dyes, in turn prepared by diazotization and coupling. Preferred coupling components are 6-hydroxy-pyrid-2- ones, isoquinoline - 1,3 - diols, pyrazolones and 6-hydroxypyrimidines. The dyes are used for colouring polymeric textile materials particularly polymers and copolymers of acrylonitrile or dicyanoethylene or blends of these with other textile materials, acid-modified polyesters and polyamides.
