Abstract
1425832 Coated products ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 27 March 1973 [29 March 1972] 14732/73 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and D1] An antistatic textile article, e.g. a carpet, comprises a pile layer secured to a primary backing on the other surface of which is an adherent conductive pile-anchoring layer, the pile layer comprising polyamide fibre containing 1-12% by weight of a predominantly branched product obtained by the chainextending reaction of (i) a tetrol compound of the formula in which a, b, c, d, w, x, y and z are whole numbers and R is a divalent hydrocarbon radical containing 1-13 carbon atoms, with (ii) at least one compound selected from (a) diepoxides or (b) compounds which are capable of forming ester or urethane linkages bridging molecules of the tetrol compound by replacing two terminal hydroxyl groups, one on one molecule of the tetrol compound and one on another said molecule, by a linkage of the formula in which R' is a difunctional hydrooarbylene or heterocyclic radical. The pile anchoring layer may be a styrene/butadiene rubber which may also contain the reaction product or a polyethylene oxide. The reaction product may be added to the polyamide prior to extrusion into fibres and crimping and the carpet may have a looped pile and a jute or spun-bonded polypropylene primary backing. A secondary backing of spun-bonded or woven polypropylene or jute may be provided beneath the pile-anchoring layer. The polyamide pile fibres may be of polycaproamide or polyhexamethylene adipamide.
