Abstract

1425568 Windscreen wipers TRICOFOLBERTH Ltd 20 June 1973 [20 June 1972] 28798/72 Heading A4F A windscreen wiper blade assembly comprises at least one inverted channel section body 1 having a web 25 at a non-uniform distance from the edges of the channel, an integral flexible wiper blade comprising a main part 9 lying within the channel, a wiping lip 6 preferably with a tapering cross-section, and a resilient portion lying in the channel between the main blade part 9 and the web 25 to apply, continuously or at spaced places along the length of the blade, forces to the blade directed away from the web portion such that rocking of the blade about axes parallel to the channel length is limited and such that the blade can flex relative to the web portion into conformity with a windscreen, the pressure applied to the windscreen by each part of the lip 6 being constant. The web 25 is preferably arcuate, and the channel flanged to retain the main blade part 9. The body 1 may be connected to a wiper arm. 8 by a transverse pin 3 fixed with a spring strip 2 in an aperture 26 in the web. Alternatively two channel section bodies (10), (18) may be provided, Figs. 7-13 (not shown), pivoted to one another and urged to rotate in opposite directions about the pivot by portions of the blade which act as springs or by a leaf-spring Fig. 14 (not shown). The resilient portion may, as shown in Fig. 2, be a series of C-shaped members 5 formed integrally with the blade and a strap 4 abutting the web 25. The wiping edge 28 is moulded straight and the members 5 may be pre-stressed. In alternative embodiments the resilient portion comprises a portion 29 Fig. 16, of zig-zag cross- section, or two extensions 35 of the main part 9 of non-uniform depth, Fig. 17.
