Abstract

1424300 Guanosine by fermentation AJINOMOTO CO Inc 12 June 1974 [14 June 1973 24 Oct 1973] 26028/74 Heading C2C A method for producing guanosine comprises culturing a guanosine-producing mutant strain of the genus Bacillus which requires adenine for growth and which is resistant to at least one compound selected from a sulpha drug, methionine, a methionine analogue or azaserine, under aerobic conditions in an aqueous culture medium until guanosine accumulates in the medium, and recovering accumulated guanosine from the culture medium. The mutant is also preferably resistant to 8-azaguanine and belongs to the species Bacillus subtilis or Bacillus pumilus. The sulpha drug is suitably sulphaguanidine or sulphamerazine and the methionine analogue is suitably ethionine, methyl methionine sulphonium chloride or methionine sulphoxide.
