Abstract

1424270 Making screw feeders F E KNOTHE 27 Dec 1973 [12 May 1973] 59876/73 Heading B3A [Also in Division B8] A screw feeder comprises a screw, Fig. 1, made up of separate identical segments A which are connected together by hinges B in such a way as to pivot and in which the axis of each hi ige, which lies at right angles to the axis of the screw, forms a right angle with the hinge axes next adjacent to the first mentioned hinge in the axial direction of the screw. A method of producing the above screw comprises twisting flat sheet material, the width of which is the same as the diameter of the finished screw, into a screw shape, dividing the twisted material into identical segments A and connecting the segments A together again by means of hinges B to form a complete screw. In a modification, Fig. 2, the screw (shown encased in an envelope C and located therein on either side) is made as above, but using S- shaped material, has two-sided working surfaces and outer, stress-compensating flanges.
