Abstract

1423736 Ignition systems; timing ignition NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 28 March 1973 [31 March 1972] 14978/73 Heading F1B A method of controlling ignition advance in an ignition timing system for an internal combustion engine comprises the steps of generating a variable potential N representing engine speed, generating a variable potential # representing the position of the throttle valve of the internal combustion engine, generating an output signal which is an algebraic sum of values dependent upon the variable potentials, generating an electrical synchronizing signal representing an angular position of the engine crankshaft and converting the output signal and the synchronizing signal into a pulse signal and utilizing the pulse signal to generate ignition signals. The ignition advance system is shown in Fig. 5 in the form of a block diagram. The system comprises a generator 9 receiving variable potentials N and #, a pulse generator 10, a voltage converter 11, a synchronizing signal generator 12 and an ignition coil on spark producing circuit 13. Fig. 3 is a block diagram of the generator 9. The variable potential N representing the engine speed is supplied to the input 6 to generate a first output f 1 (N) which has a low constant value at engine speeds below a first predetermined level, a value increasing proportionally with increase in engine speed until the engine reaches a second predetermined level higher than the first level and a high constant value at engine speeds above the second predetermined level. A second circuit 3 generates a second output signal f 2 (#+aN) which for any given speed has a high constant value at a substantially closed throttle valve position, a value inversely proportional to an increasingly open position of the throttle valve and a low constant value at a substantially fully open throttle valve position separate parts of the block diagrams are described in detail in the Specification.
