Abstract
1423697 Degradable coated plastics articles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Sept 1974 [4 Oct 1973] 46380/73 Heading B2E A thermoplastic polymer coated thermoplastic polymeric article contains a prodegradant additive in both the coating and the substrate. Suitable substrates are packaging films and containers. Preferred substrates are of polyethylene, polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate, coated with polyvinylidene chloride. In Examples, polypropylene films containing 0.1 wt.% ferric stearate prodegradant are coated with polyvinylidene chloride latices containing acetylated dedecyl benzene, ferrocene or ferric acetyl acetanate hydrate in concentrations of 0.03 or 0.10%. Other prodegradants mentioned are: compounds of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu, e.g. iron dialkyl thiocarbamates; carboxylic acids e.g. stearic and lauric acids alone or in conjunction with the metal compounds; aromatic ketones; quinones e.g. anthraquinone; ferrocenes e.g. diacetyl ferrocene; and xanthene dyestuff e.g. erythrosine and fluorescein acid. The polymer(s) may contain U.V. stabiliser, many of which are mentioned.
