Abstract
142,313. Richards, A. W. May 15, 1919. Speclacics; goggles.-Relates to spectacles &c. of the kind having a clear portion and a tinted portion either of which can be used for vision. According to the invention, spectacles are so constructed that the normal line of sight passes beneath the lower edge of the rim of the spectacles, and the tinted portions are fitted to one side in such a manner that, when the wearer's head is bent slightly forward, the line of sight passes through the glasses and the lights of an approaching vehicle may be viewed through the tinted portions and the road through the plain portions. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the tinted part b<1> is slightly longer than the tinted part b<2>. and corresponding plain parts d<1>, d<2> are fitted within the rectangular frame a, which is grooved to receive the glasses and provided with a central clip member c. The spectacles are reversible, each side f being pivotally connected to the depending arm g by forming a loop on the end connecting the ear-piece to the arm g, which is preferably reduced or formed with a groove for receiving the loop. The arch portion of the bridge-piece c may be pivotally connected to the rest of the frames. In the goggles shown in Fig. 3, the portions h<1>, h<2> are tinted. The connecting-piece i is made adjustable to suit the distance between the user's eyes.
