Abstract
1422130 Selective signalling A KATHREIN JNR [trading as KATHREIN-WERKE KG] 29 Dec 1972 31 Dec 1971 25 July 1972] 60114/72 Heading G4H [Also in Division H4] Communication between apartments of a building and a central unit is via a line system having an unvarying number of conductors and is such that a binary coded D.C. signal from the central unit to ring a bell in an apartment is also operative to connect a loud-speaker in the apartment to the central unit thereby preventing eavesdropping, the line system also connecting an antenna at least to the apartments. Each apartment has a control/display panel, Figs. 2, 14, providing audio and video communication with a main gate over lines 12, 13, and includes an encoder/decoder 20 unique to that address. Communal radio/TV programmes are distributed over coax 10 and power over line 11. Alternatively, the communal and door TV signals may share the same coax or all signals may be multiplexed on to a single coax, the central unit and apartments having suitable separating filters, Operation of a call-button at the main gate is binary coded and transmitted over signal lines 12 to terminals 121-126 of each apartment. The decoder 222 of the called apartment applies earth potential to point 223 and positive potential to point 241 to energize Darlington pair 230, 231 and fire thyristor 233 which allows passage of A.C. current over line C to ring bell 234, at the same time causing thyristor 237 to conduct and connect microphone 239 and loudspeaker 238 to earth line A. A central thirtysecond timer (Fig. 13e, not shown) also responds to the code and applies a disabling signal to an AND gate (201). If the called party is absent, the timer runs down and enables the AND gate to interrupt feed current from the central station to the door extension and thereby disables the interconnection until the call-button is depressed again. If the called party goes offhook 240 current over line D1 is sensed in a threshold circuit (192, 194, Fig. 13d, not shown) to apply earth potential to a speech amplifier (195) and to the AND gate (206) preventing disconnection as long as the switch 240 is closed, even after the timer runs down. The called party may then operate switch 245 to connect earth potential to line 121 which is decoded at the central unit to operate the door opener. Similarly, operation of switch 250 applies earth potential to line 122 to sound a general alarm 28, Fig. 2. The central unit has plug-in boards for the different functions including a test board (not detailed).
