1422059 Work benches ING E ROTHENBURGER [trading as ING EDWIN ROTHENBERGER SCHWEISSTECHNIK UND INDUSTRIEBEDARF] 18 Sept 1973 [5 June 1973] 43838/73 Heading B4X A work bench adapted to be clamped to vertical surfaces, e.g. stanchions, columns or door and wall openings, comprises a frame having a longitudinal web portion 11 and two opposed limb portions 12, 13; a worktop 25; first and second apertures 15, 20 in respective limb portions; third and fourth apertures 15a, 20a at the ends of the web portion 11, and two clamping elements each including a clamping plate 17, 23 and a strut, 16, 21 extending therefrom the clamping elements being mountable in the frame either as shown in Fig. 1, in the apertures 15, 20 so as to exert clamping forces directed from one limb portion towards the other (i.e. to grip a column or wall in the gap 22) or as shown in Fig. 2 in the apertures 15a, 20a to exert outwardly directed clamping forces (i.e. to mount the bench in a door or wall opening). A telescopic pivotally mounted prop or leg 27, 28 may be provided which may be held against the bench by spring clips for transport of the bench; a handle 30 is provided for this purpose. Coarse adjustment of the spacing of the clamping plates 17, 23 is by means of a pin 18 insertable in holes 19 in the strut portion 16 and fine adjustment as well as clamping by means of a screw threaded spindle 21 to which the plate 23 is rotatably attached. The bench may have a wooden working surface 26 and holes (not shown) may be provided for tools. The clamping plates may be provided with resilient protective facing caps. In a modification the supporting frame comprises an L-shaped part 11, 12 and a second part 14 parallel to the leg 11 of the L the worktop being of steel and welded to the web 11 and second part 14.
