Abstract
1421328 Automatic control ALFRED HERBERT Ltd 1 May 1973 [26 May 1972] 24875/72 Heading G3N A servo-control system responsive to a binary demand signal representing a change in value of a controlled variable comprises a control means controlling the transfer of data to a counting means the contents of which is up-dated to provide a binary error signal to a servo means. As shown the position of a machine tool element 10 is determined by a transducer 12 and output pulses indicative of extent and direction of movement, are fed from a unit 14, and selectively passed by gates 20, 21 to up/down inputs of an error counter 24. A demand position from a computer 26 is fed to a parallel adder 28 which in co-operation with the counter 24 provides an error signal on a line 30 which through a D/A converter 70 control a servosystem comprising an amplifier 74, a servovalve 76, and a loadpositioning ram 78; acceleration feedback is provided by a transducer 80. Each new demand value is preceded by an address which is detected by a NAND gate 34, which, via a clocked AND gate 36 sets a bi-stable circuit 38. The 1 output from the circuit 38 closes gates 20, 21 and sets a first stage 40A of a shift register 40 control data transfer between counter 24 and adder 28. The stage 40A opens a gate 46 to allow the least significant digits in counter 24 to be added to the demand value in adder 28. A clockpulse sets the 1 signal in stage 40B and opens control gates 52, 56 whereby the least significant digits in adder 28 are set in the counter 24 and the most significant digits in counter 24 added to the demand value in adder 28 together with the carry from the previous operation. The next clockpulse sets stage 40C to open gate 62 and transfer the most significant digits of adder 28 into the counter 24. The subsequent clockpulse sets stage 40D which opens gates 20, 21 and resets bi-stable 38. The count is store 24 being presented on line 30 as a binary position-error signal.
