Abstract

1421232 Traffic signalling systems ZELLWEGER USTER Ltd 12 July 1973 [10 Aug 1972] 33180/73 Headings G4H and G4Q In a traffic signalling system, a plurality of traffic signalling units are controlled by signals embodying first information and using a single frequency for the transmission to all the signalling units, the first information being combined with individual second information stored in each signalling unit to control indicating elements of the unit. A typical signalling unit controlling indicators, e.g. lamps for directing traffic to car park(s) with vacant places or for indicating recommended speeds, is controlled over power supply lines (or by radio) by an audio-frequency pulse sequence including a start bit, the pulses being filtered and thresholded to convert them to D.C. form, the information bits being shifted into a shift register from which they are transferred in parallel via a store to a diode matrix (using plug-in diodes or a replaceable printed circuit card), the matrix output controlling the indicators. The pulse sequence may be controlled by car park space counters and/or police. Different units are controlled by the same pulse sequence but respond differently due to different connections in the diode matrix.
