Abstract

1420770 Flexible disc record changer MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 12 Jan 1973 [20 Jan 1972] 1842/73 Heading G5R In an automatic record change system for thin flexible disc shaped records normally carrying a video recording, the discs are stored in a case and are moved to and from the playback position by an endless belt. When disc 30 has been played pick-up 44 is lifted and carriage 47, which guides the pick-up radially of the record, is retracted to a position beyond the periphery of the disc. A suction cup 40 is then raised to engage and lower the edge of the lowermost record 43 in case 42 to a position in which it can be engaged by a pair of hooks 24 on endless belts 23, 23<SP>1</SP>. At the same time a pair of pawls 29 retaining record 30 on the turntable 27 are retracted by spring 57 when an actuating member 58 is lowered thus freeing the record for movement by a second pair of hooks 25 also attached to the belts 23, 23<SP>1</SP>. The belts are now driven by one of the shafts 36, 37 whereby the new record 43 is moved via semicircular guide 39 to the playback position where it is secured on turntable 27 by the pawls 29 which are forced outward into their record engaging positions by upward movement of the actuating member 58 and the played record 30 is moved via guide surface 38 into the case above the remaining records 43<SP>1</SP>, 43<SP>11</SP>. The record on the turntable is rotated at high speed being supported by an air cushion formed between the record and the fixed base member 31.
