Abstract
1420391 Linear motors NIPPON KOKUYU TETSUDO FURUKAWA DENKI KOGYO KK and SUMITOMO DENKI KOGYO KK 11 April 1973 [21 April 1972 (4) 25 Aug 1972 (2) 2 Sept 1972] 17284/73 Heading H2A In a transport system comprising a train driven by a thyristor controlled linear motor and including an electromagnetic rail mounted on a stationary support, the rail comprises an armature winding covered with electrical insulation and including a plurality of composite coil arrays each comprising two coil arrays, each coil array comprising a plurality of series connected rectangular coils, e.g. 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 or 5-1, 5-2, 5-3, of equal length and spaced apart by a distance equal to the length of each coil, the coils of each array being fitted into the spaces between the coil of the other array and being wound in the opposite direction to the coil of the other array. The composite coil arrays are arranged parallel to one another in the longitudinal direction of the rail and are mutually staggered, Fig. 8 (not shown). The rail includes short circuited induction coils, 24, Fig. 13, to provide braking and suspension forces for the train in the event of a failure in the power supply to the armature winding. The armature winding and induction coils may be moulded in resin to form a unitary structure. The rail also includes a channel 23 carrying fluid to cool the armature winding. The opposite sides of the rail support may carry supply conductors 29, Fig. 16 (not shown) slidably engaged by contacts connected to field windings mounted on the train.
