Abstract

1420353 Gas burners and pilots JOHN ZINK CO 23 Feb 1973 8986/73 Headings F4T and F4F [Also in Division F1] A gas burner for use in an oxidizing atmosphere having a significant flow velocity, e.g. for heat recovery from the exhaust gases of gas turbines, comprises a baffle 12 of V-shaped section with the vertex 20 pointing upstream into said flow 16, 17 for diverting the flow into two paths at an angle to each other, a plurality of openings 18, Fig. 2, through the baffle walls whereby part of said flow passes therethrough, a fuel supply conduit 14 fixed to the downstream side of the baffle and having a plurality of pilot flame ports 24 to direct the fuel gas against the downstream side of the baffle, and a plurality of main flame ports 26 to direct the fuel gas into said two diverted flow paths of said atmosphere. The baffle 12 comprises a plurality of lengths (30), Fig. 1 (not shown), separated by gaps (28) and having round or square apertures therethrough. The square apertures 46, Fig. 4, may each be provided with a diversion lip 42. The ports 24 establish pilot flames shielded from the flow 16, 17 by the baffle and serving to ignite gas issuing from the main ports 26 or to reignite said gas if the main flames are blown out by said flow. The ports 24, 26 are located lengthwise of conduit 14 at points midway between the baffle openings 18, or 46. A burner assembly comprises a plurality of said burners located parallel to each other in a plane transverse to said flow with a further said burner located transverse to said flow and to the lengths of said plurality of burners to act as a pilot to ignite said plurality of burners, said further burner being ignited by a pilot (72), Fig. 5 (not shown).
