1420177 Electrical connectors; stud and socket fastenings PLASTIC SCREWS Ltd 22 March 1974 [22 March 1973] 13951/73 Heading E2A [Also in Division H2E] An electrical connector has an electrically insulating body 1 formed from a synthetic plastics material and carries an electrical contact 5 co-operable with an electrical contact of a complementary connector, the body comprising a portion 2a intended to extend through an opening 8a in a panel 8 to which the connector is to be secured, and an integral flange portion 3 intended to abut against the panel adjacent the opening, the body having at least one integral locking element 7 which is co-operable with the panel, when the body portion 2a is inserted into the opening, to lock the connector to the panel. As shown, the locking arms 7 diverge upwardly towards the flange 3 and terminate in inclined faces 7a; side faces 7b, 7c accommodate panels of various thicknesses. A sleeve 2b forms a continuation of the socket portion 2a into which is moulded an insulated conductor 4 electrically connected to a socket 5 for reception of a complementary pin. In modifications, the end faces of the arms are radiussed or stepped instead of, or in addition to, the locating shoulders 3c; the latter may be replaced by one or more projections or the lower face of the flange may be recessed along its edges to locate the panel 8. The pairs of arms shown in the figures may be replaced by a single arm extending the full width of the socket portion 2a, and the sleeve 2b may be omitted.
