1420043 Intruder alarms FASERUND KUNSTSTOFF-PRESSWERK ROMEN KG 30 July 1973 [31 July 1972] 36228/73 Heading G4N [Also in Division H4] A method of providing protection for a space 15, e.g. rooms, cars, containers, comprises the steps of generating at 14 an inaudible infrasonic or audio pressure wave field to substantially fill the space, sensing the field at 16 for triggering an alarm 24 when an alteration of the confines of the space 15, e.g. by the opening of a door or a window affects the pressure wave field. A device for implementing the above method includes a generator 11 and a loudspeaker 14 for setting up a standing wave pattern in the space 15 at an infra-sonic frequency corresponding to the natural resonant frequency of the space. An opening of a door or a window alters the above frequency and hence the phase, amplitude or frequency of sound received by microphone 16. The received signal is compared with the direct signal received via a variable resistor 16 at a difference amplifier 20 and the difference output is applied via a switch 22 to an alarm unit 24. The switch 22 may be controlled by a timer (not shown) or by a generator 23 responsive to cipher coded radio signals from a generator 25 operated by an authorized person. The loudspeaker 14 may also be used as the receiving transducer (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). The output of amplifier 18 may be fed back to the input of amplifier 12 to form oscillations at the required frequency and the generator 11 may be left out (Figs. 3, 5, not shown). Several rooms may be acoustically coupled so that the speaker and microphone may be kept in different rooms. Sounds may also be radiated at different frequencies along different axes within the same enclosure to deceive an intruder. The radiated sound may also be modulated.
