Abstract

1420026 Protective arrangements HAZEMEYER 18 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 18756/73 Heading H2K An arrangement for detecting phase failure in a polyphase system comprises sensors C 1 -C 3 associated with the respective phase conductors P 1 -P 3 and each producing a pulse at each half cycle of the respective phase current, and a monostable switching circuit (not shown) to which the pulses are applied, the switching circuit having a monostable period which lies between one nth part and one (n-1)th part of the cycle period of the polyphase system, n being the number of phases of the said system, so that the switching circuit is normally retained in the switched-on condition by the train of pulses, but when pulses derived from one phase cease due to a phase failure the switching circuit switches off during the period when a pulse is missing. The sensors may be toroidal cores with secondary windings connected to differentiator circuits formed by capacitors C 4 -C 6 and resistors R 4 -R 6 which shape the pulses. Diodes D 4 -D 6 eliminate the positive pulses so that the output signal at E to the switching circuit is a train of short negative pulses. Rectifiers S 1 -S 3 , regulators Rg 1 -Rg 3 and diodes D 1 -D 3 provide a power supply to the switching circuit and for an alarm or protective circuit. This supply may also provide a signal to a logic circuit, Fig. 3 (not shown) which is effective to prevent incorrect operation of the arrangement under transient conditions.
