Abstract

1419487 Clutch-brake combinations; friction clutches LIPE-ROLLWAY CORP 3 July 1974 29497/74 Headings F2C and F2L In a clutch-brake combination for a motor vehicle wherein a driven hub 14 carries friction discs 15, 16 which are normally clamped between a driving flywheel 30, intermediate disc 36 and presser plate 38 by springs 44 and are disengaged by radial release levers 48, the assembly is housed within a liquid-tight casing 32, 34 and the hub 14 carries a friction surface 23 which is engaged by an axially slidable non-rotatable brake disc 20 during clutch disengagement. The brake disc 20 is fast with a sleeve 18 which slides on the outer surface of the hub 14 and is moved axially by the housing 24 of a clutch release bearing when the latter effects clutch disengagement. The clutch release bearing 70 acts through wear adjusting screws 66 and plungers 64 on the inner end 58 of the radial release levers 48. During clutch engagement the plungers 64 are held in contact with the inner ends of the release levers by springs 62.
