Abstract

1419258 Boring earth &c MASCHINENFABRIK RUDOLF HAUSHERR & SOHNE KG 14 Dec 1972 [15 Dec 1971] 57636/72 Heading E1F An automatic earth drilling apparatus comprises a vehicle 1 having a mast 2, a sliding head 3 carrying a drill motor 4 and movable along the mast by means of a feed motor (not shown), and a series of sensor devices I to VI spaced along the mast, the sensor devices being operable by the passage of the sliding head thereover and consisting of electrical pulse emitters which, through relays, control various functions in the drilling cycle. The device I controls the initial positioning of the sliding head 3 for drilling, the device II positions the sliding head for the addition to or removal from the drill string of a drill rod, the device III controls the unscrewing of drill rods during withdrawal of the string. Device IV controls screwing of an additional drill rod into the string during drilling, and the switching over of the feed motor from maximum to minimum speed during withdrawing. Device V controls the release of the connection between the string and drill motor during drilling, and switching over of the feed motor from minimum to maximum speed during withdrawal. Device VI limits downward travel of the sliding head during drilling and initial positioning of the sliding head for rod withdrawal.
