Abstract

1419116 Shampoos UNILEVER Ltd 26 July 1973 [1 Aug 1972 8 Sept 1972] 35901/72 and 41715/72 Heading C5D An aqueous shampoo for imparting cosmetic attributes to the hair comprises a surfactant, a perfume and a solubilized or dispersed waterinsoluble wood rosin which is deposited on to hair upon dilution of the shampoo during shampooing. The wood rosin may be pine rosin or a polymerized, hydrogenated, isomerized, disproportionated esterified or etherified wood rosin. It may be a mixture of rosins to provide a product with a softening point of 0‹ to 50‹ C., e.g. a mixture of a glycerol ester of polymerized rosin and a hydrogenated methyl ester of rosin of softening point 30‹ to 40‹ C. The shampoo contains 2À5 to 15% wt. of the rosin. Solubilization is by means of a surfactant, e.g. salt of a C 12 -C 21 fatty alcohol sulphate or a C 12 -C 21 fatty alcohol ether sulphate and a water miscible solvent, e.g. C 2 -C 3 alkanol, a di- or tri-hydric alcohol, a glycol ether or a mixture thereof. The suspending agent is one which provides thickening, structure and thixotropy to the shampoo, e.g. carboxylated acrylic polymers and is used in quantities of 0À5 to 5%. Optional ingredients are (A) water-immiscible solvents, e.g. halogenated hydrocarbons, (B) lubricants, e.g. cetyl palmitate, glycol polysiloxanes, mineral oils and mixtures thereof, (C) lather boosters and/or stabilizers, e.g. coconut amide and laurie diethanolamide, (D) soaps, non-ionic and cationic surfactants, (E) colouring.
