Abstract

1419065 Recording efficiency of operatives W R CLARKE 30 Nov 1972 [8 Sept 1971(2)] 41927/71 and 55416/72 Heading G1J [Also in Division G4M ] To monitor the performance of an individual carrying out a task (e.g. the assembling of components), the location (e.g. workbench area) in which the task is carried out is arranged for the automatic generation of signals upon the start and the finish of the task, and the elapsed time represented by these signals is compared with a target time for the task the individual's performance then being displayed and/or recorded. The target time may be set to a chosen value by means of a variable rate pulse generator and by connecting a chosen socket of a plug board to a comparator; the pulse train then scans the sockets and when it reaches the chosen socket, a signal is fed to the comparator. A signal representing the individual's time and derived by photo-sensitive, pressuresensitive or proximity switches is also fed to the comparator. A lamp may be energized if the target time is beaten. If there are a number of tasks to be carried out, a number of timers, associated one with each task, may be provided. When the system is used as a teaching aid, parts of the individual's workbench may be lit at predetermined times to indicate which components should be selected for assembly at the stages represented by these times and to indicate that the time allotted for a preceding stage has run out. Alternatively, components may be fed to the individual. The individual's performance may be recorded by a pen trace recorder.
