Abstract
1418918 Measuring impurities in oil electrically REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 8 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 56683/72 Heading G1N The presence of impurities (e.g. water) in oil in engine crank-cases or sumps is determined by measuring the resistance of the oil using a printed circuit probe in the form of a dip stick. The probe is provided with two printed circuit branches interleaved so that when the probe is inserted through a hole into the crank-case the branches are bridged by the oil. An ohmmeter is connected across the two branches and if the resistance of the oil rises, due to impurities, above a predetermined level the indicator needle of the ohmmeter causes a current to pass in the energizing circuit of a lamp.
