Abstract
1418910 Fractionating glucose syrups G G BIRCH 10 Oct 1973 [11 Oct 1972] 36996/72 Heading C3U A process for the isolation of selected fractions of glucose syrups obtained from starch hydrolysis comprises (i) positioning the glycose syrup by means of reverse osmosis into a permeate and concentrate; (ii) optionally subjecting the resultant permeate and/or concentrate to further reverse osmosis; and (iii) isolating a selected permeate and/or concentrate. The preferred products comprise a mixture of oligosaccharides having less than 10% of material of molecular weight less than 300 and less than 10% of material of molecular weight greater than 30,000, e.g. having at least 80% of material of molecular weight in the range 666-1314, and a mixture of oligosaccharides having at least 70% of material of molecular weight greater than 1476. These may be produced by successive reverse osmosis through "loose" and "tight" membranes.
