Abstract

1418603 4,5-Dichloro-thiazolyl ureas BAYER AG 19 April 1974 [21 April 1973] 17239/74 Heading C2C 4,5 - Dichloro - thiazolylureas of general formula in which R<SP>1</SP> is methyl or ethyl; R<SP>2</SP> is H or methyl and R<SP>3</SP> is C 1 -C 4 alkyl or C 3 -C 4 alkenyl or alkynyl, are prepared by either reacting (a) a 2 - alkylamino - 4,5 - dichlorothiazole of general formula with an isocyanate R<SP>3</SP>-N=C=O optionally in the presence of a diluent or (b) a 2-alkylamino - 4,5 - dichlorothiazole of Formula II with a carbamic acid halide R 2 R 3 N-CO-Hal optionally in the presence of a diluent and an acid-binding agent or (c) a 2-(N-alkyl-N- chlorocarbonylamino)- 4,5 - dichlorothiazole of general formula with an amine R 2 R 3 NH optionally in the presence of a diluent and an acid-binding agent. Amongst the examples the compounds N- (4,5 - dichloro - 2 - thiazolyl) - N,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl and N,N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>-trimethyl urea are prepared. 2 - Methylamino- and 2 - ethylamino - 4,5- dichlorothiazoles are prepared by condensing methylamine or ethylamine with 2,4,5-trichlorothiazole. 2,4,5-Trichlorothiazole is obtained by heating trichlorovinyl-isocyanide dichloride with sulphur in an autoclave. 2 - (N - alkylamino - N - chlorocarbonyl) - 4,5- dichlorothiazoles are prepared by treating 2- alkylamino-4,5-dichlorothiazoles with phosgene, e.g. alkyl is methyl. Herbicidal compositions comprise a compound of Formula I as active ingredient in admixture with a solid or liquefied gaseous diluent or carrier or a liquid diluent or carrier containing a surface-active agent.
