Abstract

1418233 Electro-chemical analysis HARCO ELECTRONICS Ltd 9 July 1973 [23 April 1973] 32567/73 Heading G1N An antimony electrode assembly comprises a relatively short fine rod of antimony (length 0.03937" to 0.11811", diameter 0.00984 to 0.02953") secured at one end in end to end relationship with a fine silver wire and a hard plastics material sheath covering the antimony rod apart from its exposed end and part at least of the silver wire. The antimony rods may be formed by drawing up molten antimony into a glass capillary tube and after solidification chipping away the tube. After soldering or fusing to the silver wire and attachment of a single flexible wire cable to the wire the sheath is applied by coating with a plastics material with the rod and wire assembly mounted vertically with the rod uppermost. The electrode assembly may be used with a salt bridge which comprises a small diameter plastics or glass tubing filled with a heated and saturated solution of KCl. Porous plugs soaked in KCl are sealed in the ends of the tubing. The electrode assembly can be built into long needles for intra-oral use for measuring pH, pCO 2 or pO 2 .
