Abstract
1417682 Hectograph printing ink COLUMBIA RIBBON & CARBON MFG CO Inc 29 Nov 1973 [6 Dec 1972] 55497/73 Heading C4A A thixotropic hectograph printing ink which comprises from 30% to 80% by weight of a voltatile organic liquid vehicle having a boiling point between about 200 F. and 460 F; and having a solids content of from 70% to 20% by weight, the solids content comprising a major amount by weight of particulate, spirit-soluble hectograph colouring matter and minor amounts by weight of dispersed hard waxy binder material particles having a melting temperature of from 140 to 300 F., film-forming binder material, and non-drying oleaginous material which is at least partially incompatible with the hard waxy material, the ink being capable of being printed and dried at ambient temperatures and fused at elevated temperatures to provide a clean, rub-resistant, stable duplicating composition may be prepared by (a) preparing a dispersion of the hard waxy binder material in a volatile organic liquid which contains the non-drying oleaginous material, (b) heating the dispersion to form a clear liquid, (c) mixing solid particulate hectograph colouring matter with the clear liquid to cool the liquid and cause the waxy material to come out of solution in the form of tiny particles, (d) preparing a solution of the film-forming binder material in a volatile organic liquid which is miscible with the organic liquid of the mixture, and (e) milling the mixture and the solution together to form the ink. In the examples the inks comprise carnauba wax particles, lanolin, carbon black, crystal violet dye particles, ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose, naphtha, xylene, mineral oil, ethyl cellulose and mineral spirits.
