Abstract

1417473 Briquetted ores BANYASZATI KUTATO INTEZET 21 Aug 1973 39402/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] In a process for mixing a bitumen or other heat-softenable foamable hydrophobic binder with a particulate material to be moulded into artefacts, the material is heated to a temperature above the softening point of the binder such that moisture is still present by the end of the heating, and the binder is preheated to a temperature at which it will vaporize the moisture on contact and be converted into a foam by the steam produced. In an embodiment the material to be moulded is heated to 95-100‹ C. by steam injection, and the material thus heated up is continuously stirred whilst bitumen at 200- 250‹ C. is allowed to flow in or is sprayed in. The material may be iron ore flotation concentrate or other fine grained moist ores (Example 3).
