Abstract
1417377 Mixing apparatus MASCHINENFABRIK HENNECKE GmbH 2 April 1974 [5 April 1973] 14475/74 Heading B1C [Also in Division C3] An apparatus for the manufacture of plastics foam material comprises supply tanks for the foam-forming components from each of which a pipe incorporating a pump leads to a mixing head, at least one pipe incorporating a mixer into which a gas line opens, the mixer being preceded by a pressure pump and a residence-time unit incorporating a pressure generator being arranged between the mixer and the mixing head. In Fig. 1 a pipe 2 leads from a supply tank 1 to a mixing head 3, the pipe being provided with a reversing valve 4. A pump 5 delivers the component stored in tank 1 to mixing head 3 and brings it to a higher pressure level under which it is expanded into a mixer 6 through nozzle 7. A compressed air line 8, which contains a throttle valve 9 opens into mixer 6. A section 10 of the pipe 2 functions as a residence-time unit and a pressure generator 12 is arranged at an elevated point 11. A recycle pipe 15 terminates in a reversing valve 4. The residence-time unit 10 is fitted with a measuring element 16 which transmits its measured valve to a controller 17 which compares it with a preset value and adjusts valve 9 through adjusting member 18. The second component is delivered to the mixing head through a pipe 19 and a metering pump 20. In Fig. 2 a similar apparatus is shown, which differs from the apparatus of Fig. 1 in that the residence-time unit is in the form of an intermediate container 30, a pressure generator 32 being arranged on the upper part 31 of the intermediate container. A useful mixer for the process is shown in Fig. 3. In this a pipe 43 opens through a nozzle 44 into one end 45 of an outer shell 46. A compressed air line 47 opens adjacent the same end, but at the periphery. A radial wall 48 adjoined by an inner concentric shell 50 is arranged in the shell 46 at a point corresponding to about one third of the length of the mixer 42. The wall 48 is provided with perforations 51 and, at its rear end, is closed by an end wall 52 arranged at a distance from the second end wall 53 of the outer shell 46. The pipe 43 leads off from the wall 53.
