1416669 Acetonaphthones WARNERLAMBERT CO 12 Aug 1974 [27 Aug 1973] 35408/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein the Z ring is of the following structure They may be obtained by reacting dimethyl sulphoxide with Na 2 H 2 in an inert solvent, adding thereto a 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1 or 3- hydroxy-2-naphthoate ester, maintaining the reaction mixture at a temperature of up to 50‹ C., and thereafter precipitating the Na salt of the product by adding a non-polar solvent. They are useful in the preparation of tetrahydro-hydroxymethyl-naphthopyran-4-ones.
