Abstract

1416625 Polystyrene film laminates MONSANTO Ltd 19 Feb 1974 [26 March 1973] 14339/73 Headings B5B and B5N [Also in Division B2] A biaxially oriented polystyrene film, e.g. of molecular weight 70,000 to 100,000, is laminated to a copolymer of an olefin, e.g. ethylene, and an unsaturated ester, e.g. vinyl acetate, derived from an unsaturated alcohol and a saturated acid or vice versa. The copolymer may comprise 2 to 30% by weight, of the ester component. The copolymer may contain units derived from partial hydrolysis of the ester component. The film may be 15 to 100 Á thick and may bear printed matter. The copolymer component may comprise at least one additive which is an anti-static, anti-block, anti-fog or slip additive, a U.V. or oxidation stabilizer, a filter or a colouring material. The film may be prepared by adhesive lamination or by extrusion coating of a biaxially oriented polystyrene film which has optionally been subjected to electrical discharge treatment before coating.
