Abstract

1416543 Preparing chromocene BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 1 Nov 1973 [13 Nov 1972] 52307/72 Heading C2J Chromocene, or a ring-substituted analogue thereof, is produced by reacting in the liquid phase under anhydrous conditions and in an inert oxygen-free atmosphere an anhydrous chromous carboxylate with a cyclopentadienyl, or ring-substituted cyclopentadienyl, metal salt, particularly an alkali metal, magnesium or thallium salt. Reaction is normally effected at -78‹ to 120‹ C. in a solvent such as dimethoxyethane, THF, ethylene glycol dimethyl ether, dioxan, heptane or benzene under a nitrogen or argon atmosphere. The reactants may particularly be chromous acetate or propionate and cyclopentadienyl sodium.
