Abstract

1416465 Decomposition of cyanide wastes; sodium carbonate GES FUER KERNFORSCHUNG mbH 5 March 1973 [11 March 1972] 10562/73 Heading C1A Method for the non-polluting decomposition of solid and/or liquid cyanide wastes comprises heating the cyanide to its melting point and blowing low pressure water vapour into the melt. In an example sodium cyanide is decomposable according to the reaction: 2NaCN + 4H 2 O # Na 2 CO 3 + CO + H 2 + 2NH 3 by reaction with steam at 850‹ C. for 2 hours, 99% of the cyanide being converted.
