Abstract

1416400 Spring applied-fluid pressure released brakes; valves SO DE RE P 13 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 57938/73 Headings F2F and F2V A parking or emergency control valve 1 for a spring-applied-fluid pressure released braking system comprises a differential valve member 8 provided with passages 15 of small cross-sectional area compared with the seat surface area so that if there is leakage on the air supply side of the valve the exhaust of air from the brake cylinder is retarded to prevent sudden fierce brake application. Compressed air supplied via a distributer 3 and the valve 1 releases the brake by opposing the springs 2b and valve member 8 is then urged to its seated position. For parking the distributer 3 is moved so that compressed air acts on a piston 12 in cylinder 13 to open valve member 8 and allow brake application. A modified form of valve member 8a, Fig. 3, has passages 18 closed by an annulus 19 under the influence of a dished spring 20, allowing a fast initial movement followed by gradual brake application.
