Abstract

1416082 Acoustic flaw-detection DART INDUSTRIES Inc 6 March 1973 [7 March 1972] 10706/73 Heading H4D Plastic-coated bottles are tested for fractures by conveying them through a test station in which each is impacted to generate sound waves. A defective bottle is identified on the basis that its sound output decays to less than 25% of its original level at impact over a 15 msec. period, the sound level being monitored by a microphone and a device which activates a bottlereject mechanism. A soundproof structure may be used around the impact zone to exclude interfering noises.
